Image details: This is a phomona with lightning called heat lightning. What is heat lightning? The name has nothing to do with heat or dryness in the air. Heat lightning is pretty much thunder storms on the horizon, lightning flashes can be seen up to 100 miles away that you can see the lightning and not hear any thunder because light travels faster the sound the sound dissipates before it reaches the observer. I was in Andrew County Mo. 24 miles East of St.Joseph Mo when I took this picture. I looked at the radar and the storm was in western part State of Kansas, it looks brownish orange because it's at the horizon through the layers of the atmosphere same effect with the Sun and Moon rising or setting.
